Underachievement in gifted children is difficult to reverse, and the longer a child underachieves, the harder it is to reverse. The positive response to the book has been overwhelming. Gender is a topic that invites controversy and as a result, I was nervous about how the book would be received. But Mark told me – which is testament to the belief he has in me and him as a partnership – that this book could really change the way people think about boys and what they're capable of.
This matters, because a greater understanding of patterns of attainment and of the nature of underachievement is a precursor to the design of successful initiatives to overcome inequalities in.
